Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
