Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a torrid year, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former trainer his previous coach.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his initial championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface from that period of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

His retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on court had caused observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

He saved four early chances in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
