The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of scary movies: Get comfortable with your loved one and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its online premiere on Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like conventional biological terror, but within Together resides a deep examination about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together marks the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have been together for over ten years. United in marriage in reality in 2017, the actors contribute a special spark to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when Millie and Tim move from the metropolis to the rural area for her career. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, of course, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the two discover an underground cave. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a strange force begins influencing the couple. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying horror experience, weaving in moments of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes during something horrific). Shanks weaves these elements together seamlessly and delivers them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and removed from his network of friends. He fears the concept of completely losing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for mobility.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie avoids making either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Both characters confront the sort of issues that are inherent in most partnerships over a long period. Deep down, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of excessive reliance and fully committing to a partner, the symbolism avoids being overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that single viewers have seen the movie as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could act as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your significant other and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can undertake right now.

Together is currently playing on Hulu at present.
